Lady of the Castle

Four grey walls, and four grey towers,
Overlook a space of flowers,
And the silent isle embowers
The Lady of the Castle.

Moving through a mirror clear
That hangs before her all the year,
Shadows of the world appear.

And sometimes thro' the mirror blue
The Knights come riding two and two.
She hath no loyal Knight and true
The Lady of the Castle.

But in her web she still delights
To weave the mirror's magic sights.

My mother is my friend and my muse. Not only did she always support my artistry, but she was also always able to come up with ideas that brought a piece up forward.

It was only natural that I would photograph her at some stage. Sure, if we can't photograph our own and capture their soul and beauty, how are we going to photograph strangers?

She visited me in Ireland a little while back and we hastily got things together for the shoot. Everything fell in to place magically. We got a loan of a dress from the Early Music Galway that fitted her like it was made for her. It was hand-made locally and is a Tudor style design.

The hair was provided by my own trusted hairdresser Katka Rysankova from Kulture Kurl on Abbyegate Street. Katka blended a good few colours together to give my mom the perfect shade of red and the haircut she gave her kept it shape for ages. Michelle Farell from Belle More Beauty did my mom's make-up and made her look like a doll.

The stunning location is Rinville Park. Although we were running late the whole day and the weather kept changing, we somehow caught the golden hour which made my job so much easier.

Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Be happy and well,
Julia
